When a death occurs away from home, our help is close at hand. The professional staff at Massey Funeral Home has experience in making all the necessary arrangements. We act as your advisor and agent in working with other professionals long distance. It is very important that you contact us first and let us engage our representatives in that area. (Do not contact a funeral firm where the death occurs. We must do this.)

In times gone by, very few people traveled very far from home. Today, things are much different. The odds of you or a family member dying while away from home are greater today than ever before. So many people today work in areas away from home. National and international travel has become commonplace. And many families will retire some place other than home.

What to do First:

Call
Massey Funeral Home at: (919) 269-6600 day or night.

As your agent, we will contact a funeral home professional in the city where the death occurred. Upon making the contacts we will arrange for:

The removal of the body from the place of death

Preparation of the deceased for transportation back to Ashe County

Providing the necessary transportation container

Obtaining and filing of the many legal documents necessary for returning the body. This would include the necessary permits and certificates.

Arranging for proper transportation back, either with the airlines or by motor hearse

Transporting the body to the airport and seeing the body is properly transported

Beginning the local arrangements and notifying the local newspapers and media to inform friends and residents.

Transporting the remains from the receiving airport to our funeral home by motor hearse
