Lonnie E. Poole, Jr. June 8th, 1930 February 2nd, 2012
Zebulon - Lonnie E. Poole, Jr. passed away on Thursday, February 2nd at The Oaks at Mayview at the age of 81. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Lonnie E. Poole, Sr. and Lela M. Poole, a sister, Martha M. Alford, and a granddaughter, Ashlyn B. Poole. More than anything, Lonnie loved to host a good fish fry but his specialty was barbeque chicken which he could be found cooking on a charcoal grill most every Sunday afternoon. Lonnie was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps in 1953, holding the rank of Corporal in the Korean War. During his military career, he received the Korean Service Medal w/three stars, U.N. Medal, Purple Heart, and a Gold Star in lieu of a second Purple Heart. After his discharge, he became owner and operator of Pooles Refrigeration, Heating & Air Conditioning, which he ran successfully for many years. During this time, Lonnie served his community as an active member of the Zebulon Lions Club. Lonnie is survived by his wife, Lou Ellen and their children, Vickie, Tony and wife Debbie, Joy, Greg, Gary and wife Magda. He has four grandchildren, Luke, Lyle and fiance Amanda, Stacey, Ian, and two great grandchildren, Jordan and Peyton. He is also survived by his sister, Diane P. Tant and husband Ed. A private graveside service officiated by Rev. Jack Glasgow will be held at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens with full military rites. Arrangements by Massey Funeral Home at.
